North Carolina has expanded Medicaid coverage to now insure eligible adults ages 19 through 64. If you are uninsured, Medicaid could offer you the peace of mind of knowing that you are covered if you get sick or injured.

Cost shouldn’t be a barrier to taking care of your health. Medicaid coverage pays for doctor visits, yearly check-ups, emergency care, mental health, prescription medications, and more. If your children are already covered by Medicaid, you now can join them in receiving coverage.

Many small businesses can’t afford to offer health coverage to employees, so those eligible typically have jobs without benefits or they are not paid enough to get subsidized coverage on their own.

Coverage is crucial to people with chronic conditions like diabetes. You can get the care you need to help prevent more significant and costly problems down the line. This approach contributes to better health and can save on healthcare expenses in the long run.

Take the first step toward a healthier future and apply for Medicaid today. Your health matters, and this is an opportunity to prioritize it without the added financial stress.

There are 4 ways to apply:

  1. Online: Apply online at https://epass.nc.gov/
  2. Phone: Call your county’s Department of Social Services (DSS). Find your local agency online or by calling the NC Medicaid Contact Center at tel: 888-245-0179.
  3. Mail, email, fax or drop off: Fill out a paper application and send it to or drop it off at your local DSS agency. Get a copy of the paper application here.
  4. In person: Apply in person at your local DSS.

Call your local DSS if you cannot apply one of these ways. See a list of local DSS locations.
